Webcomic Review: MegaTokyo

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you the webcomic that made me begin to read webcomics. Going strong for 10 years, this webcomic has released 5 books, with a sixth to come out this summer. This comic, is MegaTokyo.

Megatokyo n173z

It was originally created by Fred Gallagher and Rodney Caston. After 2 chapters though, Caston left the project and let the artist Gallagher continue with his own view of the plot.

The story begins with two friends; Piro, the shy and quiet fanboy, and Largo, the l337-speaking hardcore gamer. They decide it would be a fun idea to fly to Japan on a whim. Little did they know, they only had enough money to get there, and not to go back. Trapped in Tokyo, they attempt to get jobs to get enough money to buy plane tickets home. They both get side tracked when Piro meets a young voice actress and Largo accidentally unleashes the forces of evil into the streets of Tokyo.

This comic is pretty great. It has an interesting plot, with a bunch of jokes. The update speed is almost non-existent at this point, after Gallagher got married and had a child, but it is still worth the read. You can visit http://www.megatokyo.com to read them online, or check out a comic book store to buy volumes 1 to 5 in graphic novel goodness.
